The Rupee was derived from the sanskrit word Raupya , which means silver .
Rs 10 note was introduced in 1864
Rs 5 note = 1872
Rs 100 note = 1900
Rs 50 note = 1905
Rs 500 note = 1907
Rs 1000 note = 1909
The Reserve Bank of India began note production in 1938
